Building an audience is hard.
Turning that audience into a community that interacts with each other can have huge benefits to your business. But it’s hard to do.
One great way to build a community is by giving your users a voice. Let them interact with each other and start discussions. Let them share their experiences and knowledge – and maybe even their love for your product or blog.
Adding comments to your website is a great way to give your users that voice. Comment sections are everywhere, and everyone knows how to use them.
To install a comment section, we are going to be using Commenze. There are alternatives out there - but none that will allow you to customize your comment section with a theme.
If you want to learn how to customize your theme, we recommended that you start here.
If you haven't already, Sign Up to Commenze.
Once you’ve signed up, go to the Add Site page and input your sites URL. For example, if your website is called test.com input http://test.com. Once that’s done, hit the add ‘Add Site’ button.
You will then be redirected to the installation steps. From the dropdown that reads “example.com” chose the site that you just added.
Keep this page open as we will be returning to it very shortly.
To do this step, you need to have access to your site's code.
Navigate to the HTML code for the page that you want your comment section to appear on.
Near the bottom of the code you should see a line that contains this:
Right before that, paste in the first 2 lines of code that you were given in the previous step. These 2 lines handle loading your comment section on your page.
Finally, you need to decide where you want the comment section to appear on your website.
If you’re unsure of this, its good practice to have the comment section appear at the bottom of your page. This will usually be right before the 2 lines of code you just pasted.
Once you’ve chosen the location for your comment section, copy and paste the final line of code that was given in the previous step (on the install page).
And that's it!
If you save these changes and reload your website, you will see a Commenze comment section appear.
To add a comment section to another page on your site, simply follow step 2 again for the new page.
Moving on, you may want to change the layout, design, or fonts of your comment section. Luckily Commenze allows you to do that super easily.
